Three Weird Sisters enticing Troy shoppers

There’s nothing like a good stash of items in a barn or basement to get Beth Kerber’s blood flowing.

The lover of old things – fire place mantels from houses facing the wrecking ball or window frames of churches on the auction block – has turned a collection of treasures into a new business just east of Troy’s Public Square.

The Three Weird Sisters opened at 5 E. Main St., in mid-March. The business features unique art and antiques and décor for home and garden.

“It has just fallen together because people love the idea,” Kerber said. “I like unusual things. I don’t like just the everyday. I like signage, lettering, porcelain. I like digging the stuff out of the basement, bringing it back to life.”

Kerber fell in love with picking treasures while looking for unique items for her own home. Her best “picker,” she said, is husband Grant.

A native of Franklin, Kerber has lived in the Troy area about 20 years. She has four daughters ages three to 13.

The name of the business comes from the three witches in William Shakespeare’s Macbeth and the Lilian Jackson Braun’s the “Cat Who” series of books about a reporter in Junktown with a store named Three Weird sisters.

What does the business offer that makes it stand out? "We will have constantly changing items some one of a kind for decorating. We will stock CeCe Caldwell Chalk + Clay paint, and offer classes, so people will be able to recreate to their own taste."

How did the business start? "I became interested in finding a really large, unique piece for our home. The things I really wanted were simply nowhere to be found. So began the quest for 'my holy grail.' I found some really cool and unique pieces and met the most interesting people along the way. I was hooked!" she said. "Soon my cool and unique pieces were taking up too much space and I needed to re-home them. I called some of those really interesting people and asked if they were interested in coming in with me to sell. They were, so here we are."

Customer comment: Callie Reed, a decorator next door at the Savvy Squirrel, just loves the fact that she can buy her CeCe Caldwell paints at Kerber's store.

How to contact the business: Phone is (937) 339-1333. Hours are Tuesday through Saturday, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
