Tipp City reviews 25 applicants for police chief

City officials are reviewing 25 applications received for the police chief’s position vacated with the April death of Tom Davidson. He had served as chief for more than 20 years.

City Manager Jon Crusey said the resumes are being reviewed first to ensure each applicant meets minimum qualifications. The resumes of those who do then will be evaluated with the top candidates called in for initial interviews by the end of July.

The position pays $73,842 to $90,771, annually, depending on qualifications.

The applicants include a number of people from the Miami Valley including Eric Burris, acting Tipp City Police Chief, and former Tipp City police officers David Friend and J.J. Mauro. Friend now is chief of police in Amelia, near Cincinnati.

Other applicants from the area include: Charles Adams, a captain with the Troy Police Department; Gary Copeland, chief of the Waynesville Police Department; Andrew Booher, a lieutenant with Dayton Police Department; Charles Taylor, a sergeant at Huber Heights Police Department; Harry Busse III, a lieutenant at the Vandalia Police Department; Matthew Hamlin, a lieutenant with the Clayton Police Department; and Michael Lang, a sergeant with the Englewood Police Department.

Also applying from the area were: David Steinbrunner, a sergeant at the Vandalia Police Department; David Wolford, a major with the Dayton Police Department; Michael Tenore, Office of Mathias Heck Jr., Montgomery County prosecutor; and Jeffrey Witte, retired Springdale police officer, now with University of Dayton Department of Public Safety.

Applicants from outside the region were: Mickey Downie, Buckeye Career Center; John Green, Ohio Peace Officer Training Academy; Deano McNeil Sr., Notre Dame College Police (South Euclid, Ohio)/Village of Glenmont Police Department;

Ronald Krueger, Rockledge, Fla., Police Department, retired; Dr. Robert Girod, Haviland, Ohio, Police Department, Paulding County; Jesse Kosegi, Amsterdam, Ohio, Police Department, Jefferson County; Jerry Speziale, New York/New Jersey Port Authority Police Department; Robert Yawn II, Osceola County Sheriff’s Office, Florida; Michael Clancey, Homeland Security Solutions USMC Base, Quantico, Va.; Sean Asbury, chief, Columbus State Police Department; and Al Pizzano, New York City Police Department.
