Tipp City school board OKs $1.1M for stadium’s first phase

The Tipp City Exempted Village Schools Board of Education approved a construction contract for phase one of improvements to the stadium at Tipp City Park.

The first phase includes $1,145,063 to prepare for and install a synthetic turf system.

The nonprofit Tipp Pride Association is working to raise money privately for the $4.9 million in proposed improvements.

The board was assured the school district's taxpayer dollars would not be used for the project.

“We are not looking to use taxpayer dollars for this facility,” said district Treasurer Dave Stevens.

The contract is with Bruns General Contracting of Tipp City with a work start date of March 1.

The board held a community meeting last week to discuss schools and possible renovations of the intermediate and middle school and planning for constructing a new elementary building. The board emphasized it in no way thinks the stadium project is more important that the district's schools.
