Are you looking to kickoff the holiday season off right? Here are the top three events happening in the Springfield-Urbana area this weekend.

Springfield’s Holiday in the City

Kick off the holiday season with Santa Claus and fireworks at the annual Holiday in the City in downtown Springfield. The event will include live entertainment, food vendors, light displays, the grand illumination of the city Christmas tree, a visit from Santa, Rozzi’s famous fireworks, and much more.

The festivities begin at 4 p.m. with the fireworks show at 7:30 p.m.

NTPRD Chiller Holiday Ice Show

The NTPRD Chiller Ice Rink will host its holiday ice skating show. The show features more than 40 skaters, including their production of “How the Grinch Stole Christmas.” Also, members of the Springfield Blue Jackets youth hockey team will make an appearance.

The performance begins at 12 p.m. Saturday and admission is free.

Urbana theater to host movie night

The Gloria Theatre in downtown Urbana will show the movie, “A Christmas Story,” from 7:30 to 10 p.m. Saturday at the theatre, 216 S. Main St.

DETAILS: Historic Urbana theater gets $50K grant

Doors open at 7 p.m. Admission is $5 and all proceeds benefit the Gloria Theatre Renovation project.
