Torch used to cut into vault, safe at dealerships

Police said multiple break-ins at several automobile dealers are the work of a man picking locks and using torches to break into the businesses.

The Vandalia Police Department said a burglar picked the lock of a door at Beau Townsend Ford on Saturday night and then used a torch he found in the mechanic shop of the building to cut through a 5-inch thick door and safe. The man left the dealership with an undisclosed amount of cash, police said.
