A Fort Wayne, Ind., native, Limkemann holds bachelor and master’s degrees in exercise physiology from the University of Pittsburgh. He holds school records in the 500 freestyle, the 1,000 freestyle and the 1,650 freestyle swimming events and was a nine time Big East Conference Champion. He received the Blue-Gold Award in 2004, as the top scholar athlete.
Limkeman runs through his neighborhood, Sugarcreek Reserve and Hills and Dales, five or six times a week, totaling 600 miles. He takes four or five bike rides a week covering between 200 to 300 miles.
“The Dayton area has some great bike trails especially around Miamisburg and further south areas,” he said.
“I give some tips on bike riding, but it’s not organized.”
What is organized are his swim clubs for Centerville High School held at the Washington Twp. Rec Center, and the Dayton Raiders Swim Club at Wright State University. “I enjoy being a swim coach for young people, but it makes for an early 6 a.m. before they go to their regular classes.”
When time permits, Limkemann visits chiropractors, Drs. David Heuser and Denise Logan to use the whole body vibration platform for stretching and trigger point therapy. He also uses the interactive metronome for neuromuscular coordination and focus.
“Eric wants his body to be like a well oiled machine in order to be the best he can be,”said Heuser.
“It takes a person, like Eric, with determined resolve and a steady work ethic to achieve his goals despite all obstacles. I’d say he’s well on his way.”
