Corn will be the focal point of a new festival this weekend at a farm best known for its strawberries.
The first Fulton Farm Sweet Corn Festival will be introduced Saturday, Aug. 23, and Sunday, Aug. 24, at the farm located just outside of Troy off South Ohio 202.
Among activities planned are a corn roast, corn on the cob eating contest and corn shucking contest. There’s a corn hole tournament and the Corn Drinkers, among others, will provide music.
Local crafts people and growers, plus locally owned businesses will offer organic produce, handmade furniture and a variety of artwork, among other items. Also planned are craft demonstrations such as a blacksmith.
Fulton Farms will provide a corn roast and watermelon with additional food to be offered by Miami County restaurants including The Tin Roof, Don LeDoux’s Cajun Specialties and Susie’s Big Dipper.
Among free activities will be a straw maze, straw slide, farm animals, face painting and wagon rides around the farm. A tour of the Fulton’s organic farming area will be offered along with the opportunity to pick fresh organic produce. The organic farm tours will be offered Saturday at 1 and 3 p.m. and Sunday at 1 p.m. on a first-come, first-served basis
The Troy Historical Society and the Museum of Troy History will highlight the history of local farming through exhibits and talks. A program on the Miami County Barn Survey by Brenda Copeland will be offered Saturday at 12:30 p.m. and Sunday at 10:30 a.m.
