2 cars reportedly torched in Dayton on Christmas

Two vehicles parked in the driveway of a Dayton home were set on fire Christmas Day, according to a police report.

Police were dispatched at 3:26 a.m. Tuesday to a residence in the 1500 block of Woodley Road on a report of a vehicle fire. On scene, police noticed a 2004 Cadillac and a 2011 Chevy Impala ablaze, the report stated.

Police said the flames from the cars spread to the residence’s detached garage, but was later put out by fire crews.

Residents were able to evacuate early Christmas morning due to two teenage family members.

Grandsons of the homeowner told police they were awake when they smelled gasoline coming from outside their window, according to the report.

The two heard a vehicle drive off and looked outside to see their vehicles on fire, read the report. They ran and woke up the rest of their family, police said.

The grandsons did not see what kind of vehicle drove away, but police have obtained security footage showing “an unknown person throwing something at the two vehicles,” police said.

We will update this story as more information becomes available.
