With the tornadoes and nasty weather that touched down Monday night, many may have been wondering about the state of the University of Dayton.

University officials say the campus was unharmed by the weather, and opened on schedule Tuesday morning. They did close early at 4:30 p.m. to help with water conservation efforts because of the boil-water advisory throughout Dayton, and are planning to reassess the situation today.

The University is also encouraging anyone who wishes to donate to, or volunteer with, local recovery efforts to work through the local Red Cross, the Foodbank and other related disaster relief organizations.

In a statement released on the university’s Twitter from president Eric Spina, some university students, faculty and staff are part of the hundreds of people who have experienced losses. He said his thoughts and prayers are with them, as the university moves toward plans for relief efforts.

The boil advisory is still in effect, with water outages occurring throughout parts of Dayton and Montgomery County. Bottled water is being distributed in locations on campus.
