United Way of Greater Dayton announces ‘Kick-off on the Square’ event

The United Way of the Greater Dayton Area announced its “Kick-off on the Square” event to be held Friday from 5 to 9 p.m. on Courthouse Square downtown.

The event will feature live music, a karaoke competition with a $500 prize to the winner's favorite charity, food trucks, a 50/50 raffle, art activities for kids and Warped Wing craft brews for adults.

The event is free but the United Way is asking for donations of school supplies for its after school programs.

The Greater Dayton RTA donated a bus that will be parked on Courthouse Square where the community can “stuff the bus" with pencils, loose leaf notebook paper, construction paper, washable markers, dry erase markers, calculators and other supplies.

"Everyone can come out and have a great time while supporting kids in our community," said Tracy Sibbing, vice president of community impact at UWGDA.

"It’s Ohio's tax-free weekend, so it will be cost effective for individuals to purchase items to donate and come help ‘stuff the bus.’"

Cox Media Group’s Neighbors Helping Neighbors, Coldwell Banker, Key Bank, and the Greater Dayton RTA helped sponsor the event.
