The holiday season is here, and with it, there are plenty of opportunities to get involved in the community. What if you are seeking a volunteer opportunity involving a four legged friend? We’ve got you covered.

Here are 5 volunteer opportunities for pet lovers.

1. Sicsa

Sicsa offers something for everyone. For those looking for hands-on opportunities, they can volunteer to walk and take care of cats and dogs on-site. Those looking for something a little more active can transport pets off-site for exercise and those looking for more social opportunities, can provide joy to nursing homes and hospitals by taking pets to visit residents. To get started, fill out an application online and pay a one-time $20 fee to cover the cost of a t-shirt and supply apron. There are also opportunities for kids, age 8-15 and teens, age 13-17. Check their website for a full list of volunteer opportunities.

2. Humane Society of Greater Dayton

Volunteers have a range of opportunities available. Join the Pet Paw-parazzi and take photos of animals up for adoption or hop on the Bunny Brigade to give the rabbits exercise and socializing. There is also Pet Therapy, where volunteers take shelter animals to assisted living and senior centers to spread holiday cheer to residents. Volunteers must commit to a minimum of four hours per month for six months. Check their website for a full list of volunteer opportunities.

Become a Paw Pals volunteer. If you own a socially active pet, VITAS is looking for volunteers to take their pet to visit hospice patients. The holidays can be a dreary time of year, but a visit from a furry friend can turn it around. To get involved, fill out the form on their website.

4. Aullwood Farms

Aullwood Farms is looking for Animal Whisperers, volunteers who can help the livestock become accustomed to both human touch and movement. Volunteers must have prior experience in animal training for the breed they would be working with. Breeds range from ducks to dwarf Nigerian goats and Belgian horses to highland and dexter cattle and calves. To get involved, send an email to nlapitan@audubon.org.

5. 4 Paws for Ability

4 Paws, a non-profit which seeks to provide high quality service dogs to children with disabilities and veterans who have lost limbs or their hearing, is looking for volunteers to help with dog care, socializing and training of puppies, and office tasks.
