City objects to liquor permit request

The Springboro City Council voted on Thursday to object to a liquor permit sought by the owner of the Donut Haus on W. Central Avenue across from city hall in Springboro.

Mike Hemmert, owners of the bakery at 305 W. Central Ave. in Springboro, filed an application last week with the Ohio Division of Liquor Control for a full liquor license to serve wine, beer and spirits until 2:30 a.m. Hemmert indicated he planned to use the license at another local property he might buy.

Police Chief Jeff Kruithof said the city would be objecting to the request due to the proximity of the bakery to a playground and would request a hearing with the state board.
