A Dayton mother, whose 6-month-old daughter attended a now closed daycare center, is speaking out about the allegations that prompted the state to take action.

“I was distraught and upset,” the mother, who News Center 7 is not identifying to protect the victim, told News Center 7’s Mike Campbell.  “I couldn’t believe something like that could happen.”

She referring to allegations of sexual abuse at Pat’s Care Away from Home on West Third Street.

Prosecutors are still awaiting additional evidence to determine whether any criminal charges will come from the investigation into two reports of possible sexual abuse at the Dayton daycare.

The other potential victim is said to be a boy, police records show.  Both cases were alerted to Dayton police after social worker’s at Dayton Children’s Hospital became concerned.

The 6-month-old’s mother was at work in early January, when she left to come see her baby girl.

“She gave me a very distant stare and then I tried to pick her up and console her,” the mother said.

The mother took her daughter immediately to Dayton Children’s, where she said doctors told her they needed to do an extensive exam.

The owner of Pat’s Care Away from Home has declined comment when reached by News Center 7.

The Ohio Department of Jobs and Family Services said they first received a complaint about the 6-month-old’s potential injuries Jan. 13.  They suspended the daycare’s license after an inspection found a serious risk violation.

Attorney Michael Wright is representing the mother of the little girl.  He said the focus for them is making sure police arrest anyone responsible for the sex crime they believe happened.

“It’s hard to imagine a 6-month-old had to endure this.  It’s shameful,” Wright told News Center 7’s Mike Campbell.

A search warrant served at the daycare and list of items recovered was sealed by Dayton Municipal Court Judge Carl Henderson “for the purpose of the ongoing investigation,” court records read.

A separate police memo report filed Jan. 30 shows the Dayton Police Department responded to the daycare after a social worker wanted to report another possible case of sexual abuse possibly involving a 3-year-old boy.

According to the Jan. 30 police memo, a mother brought her son to Dayton Children’s Hospital after she “was concerned that her son had been sexually assaulted.”

The social worker told investigators the mother was concerned because her son “has been urinating himself, has a loss of appetite, and has started to touch (his mother’s) breast and vagina,” the report read.

The mother told officers that her son had been attending Pat’s Care Away from Home and she had noticed the closing notice on the door of the business on Jan. 17, but said she was not given an explanation.

Dayton Police Lt. Jason Hall said “there are currently no indications of additional victims.”

Hall also said the department is not currently able to release any details on any persons of interest.
