West Carrollton gas line work to start next month

Project may require short-term road closures, service interruptions.

WEST CARROLLTON — Starting mid-March, about one mile of natural gas piping will be replaced in what is referred to as the city’s old downtown neighborhood.

Miller Pipeline crews, working for Vectren Energy Delivery of Ohio, will be replacing gas mains and services in the city.

New gas main and lateral lines will be installed in the areas of Main, North Walnut, North Poplar, Locust and Cedar streets, and Miami and Pease avenues.

Work is slated for completion in July, and may require short-term road closures.

The project is part of Vectren’s 20-year program to replace more than 1,700 miles of aging bare steel and cast iron pipeline infrastructure throughout its service territories in Indiana and Ohio.

Work will replace the current bare steel and cast iron gas pipeline system with a plastic one.

The gas main will be replaced within the right-of-way first, followed by replacement of the service lines serving residential and commercial customers.

A Vectren representative will contact customers to schedule replacement of lines because it will involve a short interruption of service.

A Vectren representative also will schedule a time to relight any natural gas appliances of customers affected by the work.

West Carrollton staff will conduct inspections of the gas piping, as well as curb and sidewalk repairs and street restoration.

To help ensure the safety of the construction workers and traveling public, motorists are asked to remain alert, reduce their speed and watch for stopped traffic while passing through the work zone area.

Vectren informational flyers are available at the Planning and Building Department in the West Carrollton Civic Center at 300 E. Central Ave., or by visiting Vectren.com and clicking on the Public Safety tab.

All work is weather permitting. For more information, call Vectren’s Customer Service line at (800) 227-1376.
