Blue Streak riders will gather between 5 and 5:30 p.m. April 9 in the Area A Tennis Club parking lot with their bicycles and helmets.
Participants are asked to register and get their numbers at the table set up in the parking lot by 5:30 p.m. Helmets are required. Bicyclists will be released at 30-second intervals to ride the 10-mile course, starting at 6 p.m.
Many base people, military and civilian, participate in Blue Streak each month, with overall participation exceeding 130 in good weather. And the time trials also draw riders from many other areas during the season.
Greg and Marsha Susinsky, for example, drive 210 miles from their home in Amherst, near Cleveland, Ohio, to participate in Blue Streak.
“Although I race as hard as I can, I’m not in the top group with the elite racers, not yet!,” said Greg Susinsky. “The Blue Streak features a range of racers though from national and state champions and elite racers to those just starting out to everything in between. A great feature is that there are kids who race – talented, dedicated youngsters who are learning and having fun.
And that’s the thing about the Blue Streak. It’s a great race and a terrific venue; the atmosphere is unique in amateur racing. Everyone wants to go fast and win, but it’s important to just accept the challenge, race your best and enjoy it.”
