More than a year later, Gaster and her husband, Lett, have revived the bed and breakfast arm of the business while continuing to host weddings, birthday parties, seminars and fundraisers on the property’s grounds. The Willowtree will host a Vintage Base Ball game to benefit the Downtown Tipp City Partnership on Aug. 16.
The bed and breakfast’s original house was built in the 1830s, followed by additions through the 1870s. The owners live in part of the brick house, while guests have a choice of rooms that carry the names of former owners, Kerr, Pearson, Furnas and Forrest.
Gaster was no stranger to the bed and breakfast industry. Her parents own one in Maryland. When Gaster and Lett, a Vandalia native, came to Tipp City about seven years ago, they looked around for a house to transform into a bed and breakfast, but didn’t find one to suit their needs. They bought a house in town, then found The Willowtree Inn.
Lett runs the bed and breakfast. There’s a coffee bar, high speed wireless access and private baths. The grounds include a spring-fed pond, a barn and a spring house. Various packages are offered including those with dinner reservations in nearby Tipp City or Troy. “Kevin and I believe in supporting the community through such events as the vintage baseball game and the Holiday Home Tour. We believe that being a part of our community is core to who we are and what we do,” Gaster said. “We feel that we could not be successful without opening our venue up to organizations that make a difference in the lives of others,” she said.
