The folks behind the popular gypsy brewer that calls itself Nowhere In Particular have come up with an entirely new venture — although its fans might need different glassware to fully appreciate its nuances.

The first "Nowhere In Particular Wandering Winery" release, a pinot noir from the Willamette Valley of Oregon, will make its debut next Saturday, Nov. 16, at a "Wandering Wines Launch Party" hosted by Soroca Imports and Toxic Brew Company at Toxic Brew in Dayton's Oregon District. The event at 431 E. Fifth St. is scheduled for 1 p.m. to 2 a.m. Nov. 16.

Here’s a little taste of how the project came about, as described by a couple of Nowhere In Particular’s founders, Pat Sullivan and Max Unverferth, via Brandon Amuchastegui Snell, who is the founder of the locally based wine import company, Soroca Imports:

“As you probably know, Nowhere in Particular is a small group of friends who do something called Gypsy Brewing, meaning they travel to different breweries around the country and make a new batch of beer at each new location. One of their trademarks is that they never repeat the same beer twice.”

“Because of the unique method in which NIP brews beer, the availability of products can sometimes seem intermittent. Some customers might even forget about the NIP brand until the next batch hits the shelves. However, anyone who knows the team personally knows that they never rest, their ideas never stop, and they’re always thinking ahead.”

>> Four prominent Dayton-area restaurants may get new ownership

“For example, apart from their infamous brewing exploits, over the past year Pat Sullivan has been working away at Somewhere in Particular, a brick and mortar off-shoot located in Columbus, while Max Unverferth has been busy developing Nowhere in Particular Cabinet of Curiosities, a tap-house and brewery that will be located in Kettering at the former Eudora Brewing Company brewery and tap room.”

“Along with a passion for beer, Pat Sullivan also has an appreciation for wine, and in 2016, he began dabbling in the art of vinification. One of the benefits of being a traveling brewmaster is that you get to meet a lot of interesting people. Pat befriended L.J. Brimfield, who has an extensive wine-making resume.”

Brimfield’s experience spans both hemispheres, and includes wineries in Oregon, New Zealand, Australia, and California, including Cakebread Cellars in Napa and Kosta Browne in Sebastopol.

“Pat Sullivan wanted to start producing wine. Brimfield helped to spearhead the project, which was making a Pinot Noir in Willamette, Oregon. Needless to say, this Pinot is expected to be very high quality. This will mark the official launch of Nowhere in Particular Wandering Winery, and yes, there will be more wines coming very soon, from various locations around the country . . . maybe even from around the world.”
