Today, snow working into the area could leave a dusting up to ½ inch early in the day. Also, there is a slight chance for light freezing rain,  Storm Center 7 Meteorologist Dontae Jones said.

“By the afternoon, a cold rain sets up, maybe even a rain/snow mix, especially for northern areas,” Jones said.

As temperatures drop at night, the rain is expected to switch to snow.

There could be an additional inch or so of snow, with more in some places. This is expected to make the Friday morning commute on the slick side, he said.

“Snow totals could be ½ inch to 2 inches by the time it’s all said and done,” Jones said. “Then our attention will turn to the upcoming storm system moving in for the weekend.”
