Fire officials said the flames were confined to one apartment, though surrounding units received minor smoke damage.
No one was home at the time the fire originated. And although it is thought to have started in the kitchen, investigators are not yet sure how. The residence is no longer safe to live in.
“It’s still under investigation but there’s nothing suspicious about this,” said fire Capt. Jason Kinley.
Kinley said the department was “a little short staffed” when the call came in because of the home explosion on Roxbury Drive.
Initial damage estimates for the apartment fire are at about $10,000.
