Xenia school district announces four finalists for superintendent

XENIA — Four finalists have been named in the search for a new superintendent of Xenia schools to replace Jeff Lewis, who is retiring in July.

All four candidates currently are superintendents at their respective Ohio schools. They are: Donald A. Armstrong of Portsmouth City Schools; Matthew J. Dill of Fort Frye Local Schools; Bradley C. Neavin of Eaton Community Schools; Deborah A. Piotrowski, Millcreek-West Unity Local School District.

“In common, all have stated their guiding principle for management is ‘What is in the best interest of the student?’” Xenia Board of Education President Dr. Paul Dillaplain said Friday, April 30. “All are analytical, goal-oriented, and community oriented.”

The four finalists rose to the top from a field of 21 original candidates. They will undergo a second, more intense round of interviews about educational philosophy and style on May 3 and 4.

On May 11, the board is sponsoring a community forum to allow people to meet the candidates, ask questions and provide the board with feedback. After that, school board members may visit the applicants’ home district and complete reference and background checks.
