A charming space. The market, located at 600 E. Second St., opened in 2001 in the former Baltimore and Ohio Railroad freight depot built in 1911. Of the more than 50 vendors currently at the market, 15 have been there since the start. They include All Souped Up, KJB Farms, Monco Enterprises and The Spice Rack & Bulk Foods. In 2016 the market had 385,000 visitors.

Food from around the world. Visitors can take a culinary trip around the world. French crepes, Thai spring rolls, New Zealand meat pies, Mediterranean moussaka and more are among the dishes on the menus at the eight food vendors. Good old fashioned comfort food and local, organic, hormone free dishes are also served up.

Breakfast jams. Each Saturday live music begins at 10 a.m.  and on Sunday from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. The offerings include guitarist Danny Voris, blues from Troubled Waters, 1960s-based rock from the Old Skool Duo and more music from the Blue Heron Trio, Keith Lykins and the Rum River Blend.

The best of the best. The 2nd Street Market was named the "Best Farmers Market" in the 2016 Best of Ohio Readers' Ballot conducted by Ohio Magazine. It also won the award the two previous years. Dayton Magazine awarded it the "Best of Farmers Market" award in 2017 and awarded "Best Farmers Market" and "Best Place to Buy Local" in Dayton.com's Best of 2017 balloting.
