Macy’s Backstage offering gift card on tax-free weekend for first 150

Macy’s is taking the tax-free shopping holiday this weekend to a new level.

The first 150 people to line up outside the southwest parking lot entrance of the Macy’s at the Dayton Mall on Saturday will receive a free $10 gift card from Macy’s Backstage, the company’s off-price concept.

“With the back-to-school season right around the corner, Macy’s Backstage is the perfect place for parents to shop the best deals on products their kids will need for the upcoming school year,” a release said.

The store opens at 10 a.m. Saturday. The tax-free holiday weekend will from Friday to Sunday, but the promotion is Saturday only.

During the holiday customers won’t pay sales or use tax on school supplies and instructional materials priced at $20 or less and clothing costing $75 or less.

Gov. John Kasich signed a bill that made the tax-free holiday a permanent law earlier this year.

“We have data from the last two years that shows there is a large spike during the weekend,” said Ohio Rep. Niraj Antani, R-Miamisburg. “We would like to create a Black Friday-like event during August.”
