Man Found Riddled With Bullets

Police in Dayton are looking for clues into the city’s latest homicide after a man was shot more than a dozen times Monday morning.

Investigators said the victim was on his way to work when someone fired into his car at least 14 times on Blueberry Avenue.

Officials with the coroner’s office identified the victim as 40-year-old Cornelius Maxwell Jr. He lives in a house with his parents and police said they were the first ones to hear the gunfire.

LaQuana Wilson, who lives a few houses away, said she woke up to the sound of gunfire.

She said, “This is the closest I have ever been to a real crime scene.”

Police said someone called 911 just after 6 a.m., saying they heard multiple gunshots. When medics arrived, Maxwell was already dead. He was shot to death inside his car.

Officers said the victim had just left his parent's house to go to work when the shooting happened. Homicide investigators searched the neighborhood for clues and said they have few leads on a motive or a suspect.

Sgt. James Mullins said, “Any kind of information we can get, perhaps saw the person run away or drove away. At this time, we don’t know.”
