Police said Brooks spoke with his father about two hours before he arrived at his apartment and found him dead. Homicide investigators have a long road ahead of them to solve the case.
"Right now we still don't know. We're still investigating," Sgt. Mark Spiers said. "It's in the preliminary stages so we're still looking to try and determine a cause for the shooting."
According to police, the motive for the shooting may be robbery. They said there is a chance that drugs were involved.
Police said Brooks survived a similar attack in 2005. Police reports indicated that the victim was shot once int the chest and survived.
No witnesses have come forward in this case. The Dayton Police Department asks anyone with information to call 937-333-COPS (2677).
