3.8 Million Households Still Not Ready For DTV

The June 12th analog television shutoff is rapidly approaching, but millions of Americans could find themselves without TV unless they take action soon. Nielsen Media reports that 3.8 million American households were still "unready" for digital television.

Congress extended the nationwide DTV deadline from February 17th to June 12th, fearing that millions would be left without any television service. But that still may be the case even with the new deadline.

Although Nielsen reports that 260,000 households took steps in the past two weeks to make at least one TV digital ready, 3.4% of all homes would no longer have television service of any kind if the analog shutoff were today.

The government's coupon program for digital converter boxes is back on track, and people whose coupons expired may re-apply.

WHIO-TV's analog signal will be terminated at 11:59:59 pm on June 12th.
