Janet Majors - Lemon Twp. Trustee candidate

Janet Majors

Janet Majors

Janet Majors, a Lemon Twp. resident for 30 years, said she is seeking her first term on the Lemon Twp. Board of Trustees because she wants to see the community remain independent and continue the positive working relations with the city of Monroe and Monroe Local Schools. She obtained a bachelor’s degree in nursing and a dual master’s degree — a master of business administration and a master of health administration. She and her husband Bob have three sons, Kevin, Michael and Dennis.

Why did you decide to run?

I feel my experience in running our family owned and operated business, along with my many leadership and management experiences at the director level at Atrium Medical Center over the past 30 years will help me in being a good township trustee. I have excellent negotiation and people skills. I was voted Manager of the Year by employees at Atrium.

What will be your priorities be if elected?

Top priorities are to continue providing the excellent fire, police and emergency services to the residents of Lemon Twp. ...If the township is broken up, neither Madison nor Liberty twps. will be required to continue this funding, and Monroe would still have to provide emergency services under the state first or nearest responder requirements.

What are the top issues facing the township?

After reviewing the noncompliance findings by the Auditor of the State, the biggest challenge for the township is to remain an independent entity. If the current spending rates continue the township will be out of money in about two years. The total appropriations from various funds have exceeded the total estimated revenues available for expenditures for several years dating back to 2004.

What is the likelihood of Monroe annexing the township?

This is a real possibility if the residents in the unincorporated area desire to be annexed into Monroe, which I think many will be interested in when the time presents. For now, I think it is to Monroe’s advantage to keep the township independent as long as possible.
