Construction on a new facility will be getting underway along U.S. 35 to accommodate growth of a Beavercreek-based research and development firm that is working to fill a multi-year contract with the United States Air Force.
Matrix Research Inc., located at 1300 Research Park Drive, will expand into a new facility that will be located on the other side of U.S. 35 on Research Boulevard in the Miami Valley Research Park.

The city of Beavercreek has issued a building permit for a 52,382-square-foot one-story facility, according to City Planner Randy Burkett.
The building site is located next to the Greentree Group. Construction Managers of Ohio is the owner of the property and will be leasing it to Matrix; construction costs are estimated at $4 million, according to records on file with the city of Beavercreek.
Matrix Research President Bob Hawley said his company is contributing $1 million toward the project and is hopeful to move into the new location in January.
“Mark Fornes and the guys at CMO have been great to work with on this project. We are very excited to move in early next year,” Hawley said.
Matrix, an employee-owned company founded in 2007, specializes in radar measurements and in advanced data processing and exploitation. The company also custom designs and fabricates products such as test bodies and composite structures.
Matrix is working to fill a $36 million contract with the Air Force that runs through 2021. The work is focused on using sensors to detect, track, image and identify targets.
Hawley said the move means more jobs in the area as positions for engineers and possibly computer scientists will become available.
“We currently have around 72 employees,” he said. “The building will house another 30 which we hope to hire over the next few years.”
The Miami Valley Research Park is a non-profit business park and home to Reynolds & Reynolds, Kodak, The Greentree Group, Orbital ATK and Community Tissue Services.
