The wrestling team is ranked No. 2 nationally and just lost its first match against top-ranked Penn State on Saturday in what was dubbed by some as the “Dual of the Millennium” and the “Super Bowl of College Wrestling.” The Buckeyes (12-1, 7-1 B1G) draw surprisingly large crowds for a minor sport, including a crowd of more than 15,000 for their last home match against Iowa. Heavyweight Kyle Snyder, who won an Olympic gold medal in Rio, and 197-pounder Kollin Moore both are top-ranked individuals at their weight class, and the Buckeyes have seven All-Americans. Since 1921, OSU has produced 97 All-Americans, 22 individual NCAA champions, two Olympic gold medalists, four Big Ten team titles and one NCAA team championship.
3. Women’s rowing
The Ohio State women's rowing team finished fifth at the NCAA Championships to end the 2017 season and has been a strong program overall. The top-five finish marked the 11th time in 18 trips to the NCAA regatta that the Buckeyes have earned a fifth-place showing or better.
4. Women’s soccer
OSU claimed the first outright Big Ten regular-season championship in program history in the fall but ended the season with a 2-1 loss to Vanderbilt on a goal in the 89th minute in an NCAA tournament first-round game. The Buckeyes were 15-5-1 and made their third straight NCAA appearance, 12th overall since 2002.
5. Women’s synchronized swimming
The Buckeyes claimed their 30th national championship last spring, making it the most successful sport at Ohio State in that measure. It was the synchro team’s first title since 2015. Eight individuals earned All-America honors, and senior Elizabeth Davidsonwon an individual national title for the second-straight year.
6. Men’s tennis
OSU is ranked No. 2 nationally in men’s tennis at 5-0 to open the season and faces No. 6 Texas A&M and No. 11 Florida this weekend. Five individuals were ranked in the first Oracle/ITA singles and doubles rankings of 2018. The Buckeyes were NCAA tournament semifinalists last year, finishing 33-4 with a loss to eventual champion Virginia.
7. Women’s tennis
The Buckeyes are currently ranked 22nd nationally with a 3-1 record to open the 2018 season, but they are coming off their best season in program history last year. OSU, ranked No. 2 at the time, advanced to the NCAA tournament semifinals and finished 32-3 overall. The 32 wins was a program record. Francesca Di Lorenzo and Miho Kowase won the NCAA doubles title for the program’s first individual national championship.
