Single and watching porn

Fewer young Americans are getting married, and researchers think it has to do with Internet use of a certain kind.

As The Washington Post reports this week, a study of Internet habits of 18- to 35-year-old men between 2000 and 2004 found a strong link between the number of hours they watched free pornography and their marital status.

A correlation was found between being single and specifically watching free porn (as opposed to spending time on sports sites or any other type of sites). Researchers also found that participants in the study who visited religious websites were more likely to be married.

Authors of the study believe watching porn is “a means of alternative sexual gratification.”

Between 2009 and 2010, the Post points out, about 13 percent of all Internet searches were for porn.
