Police: Depressed Man Prompts Early-Morning Standoff

Someone called Huber Heights police to a home to deal with a depressed man on Tuesday morning. However, officers had to back off when the man showed a gun and refused to drop it around 3 a.m.

The man then held police in a standoff, which prompted officers to close Taylorsville Road between Damascus Drive and Stancrest Drive.

Officers said the incident ended without any life-threatening injuries. Investigators said the man that was holed up in the house did suffer a self-inflicted gunshot wound. They said his injuries occurred before police arrived on the scene.

Police called the Regional Emergency Response Team to help negotiate the man to come out of his home. Authorities covered every part of the house, where the man could have possibly left.

Investigators then waited patiently and said when they saw the man lay down in the home's hallway they rushed in and secured him. Police said it appears the man shot himself with a shot in the head early in the morning.

Police said the man is in his late 40s or early 50s. Paramedics took the man to a local hospital to be treated for his injury. They also said the man will undergo a psychiatric evaluation.

Investigators said they will talk to prosecutors about possible charges.
