A sign indicating that chicken sandwiches are sold out hangs at a Popeyes location. The company is reportedly hiring more employees ahead of the sandwich's return.

They're back! Well, almost. Several media outlets, including Business Insider, are reporting that Popeyes' viral chicken sandwich is returning to some 150 franchise-owned stores in early November.

The company's CEO, Guillermo Perales, told Bloomberg's Leslie Patton that about 150 Popeyes locations operated by Sun Holdings Inc. will offer the sandwich starting next month. He added that the restaurants were "hiring an additional 400 employees to manage the hype and could designate up to two people per store to make the coveted menu item," Patton reports.

"We have been working diligently to bring the sandwich back to our restaurants soon, as we know our guests are anxiously anticipating its return," Popeyes said to Bloomberg in a statement via email, reportedly adding, "As soon as we're ready to announce a date, we will let the world know!"

Popeyes debuted its chicken sandwich on August 12. The launch sparked a viral Twitter feud between Popeyes and Chick-fil-A over which chain had the better chicken sandwich.

"The tweets went viral," Business Insider's Shoshy Ciment reports, "fueling a massive demand for the sandwich that outweighed the supply and forced employees to work hours of grueling shifts, sometimes without breaks."

In just two weeks, the menu item sold out.

According to Ciment, Popeyes then announced a "Bring Your Own Bun" program for customers to “get a substitute for the sandwich shortly after—though some employees across the US were apparently left out of the loop.”
