To help reduce ozone formation during the advisory, the agency asked residents to take a number of actions:
- Take the bus, carpool, bike or walk instead of driving
- Refuel your vehicle after 8 p.m., don’t top off your tank, and make sure to securely tighten the gas cap
- Avoid idling your vehicle
- Avoid using gas-powered lawn equipment
Today will be sunny and warm, with high temperatures near 89 degrees, according to the National Weather Service in Wilmington. Tonight we will stay mostly clear, with temperatures dipping to a cool 68 degrees.
Tomorrow the weather will be similar, if a bit hotter, with temperatures climbing to around 92 degrees under mostly sunny skies during the day and falling to around 72 degrees at night.
Monday, however, the NWS forecast that rain will return to the area. After a mostly sunny and calm start, clouds and the chances for showers and thunderstorms will rise throughout the day, with storms becoming likely by mid-afternoon and carrying on long into Monday night.
During the day temperatures will stay hot, rising to near 91 degrees, and then during the night will fall again to around 68 degrees.
