Target needs seasonal employees for holiday work

Target is among the retailers hiring thousands for the holiday season, looking for 120,000 seasonal workers this year.

That’s 20 percent more than the company planned to hire last year, according to a company statement. Current workers will also be able to pick up extra hours.

The retail chain with 1,839 stores and 39 distribution centers nationwide has also increased the minimum wage to $12 for any employee hired after Sept. 16. By the end of 2020, it’s expected to start all employees at $15 an hour.

“As the marketplace becomes more competitive, the significant investment we’re making in our team, including our increased minimum hourly wages, sets Target apart,” said Stephanie Lundquist, chief human resources officer.

With the growth of ecommerce and it’s increasing impact on holiday shopping, the company plans to nearly double the number of employees to fulfill digital orders through its delivery and Drive Up programs.

Anyone looking to work at a Target store or distribution or fulfillment center can go to its national hiring event Oct. 12 through Oct. 14 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. There are also online applications at TargetSeasonalJobs.com.

There are Target distribution centers in West Jefferson, among five Dayton-area stores, two in Butler County and several in the Cincinnati area.
