Appleton Paper Company was founded in 1907 and is based in Appleton, Wisconsin.
In the 1950s, Appleton manufactured the first carbonless copy paper designed by NCR in Dayton. This type of paper coating work continues today.
Appleton Papers, Inc. purchased The Moraine Paper Co. in 1984 from P.H. Glatfelter and is located at 1030 West Alex-Bell Road in West Carrollton.
Appleton Paper Co. had more than 400 employees in West Carrollton in 2005.
Appleton Paper Co. changed its name to Appvion in 2012. The name was meant to combine the words “applied” and “innovation,” Appleton said at the time.
Appvion filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in October 2017.
Appvion’s West Carrollton thermal paper coating plant currently has about 111 workers.
