Three Brothers Denied Judicial Release In Connection With Mother's Killing

Three brothers convicted of strangling their mother to death in 2002 went before a judge Monday to ask for early judicial release.

Twin brothers, Christopher and Gary Sullivan, 21, and their half-brother, Charles Call, 26, were all sentenced to spend six years in jail for the killing of their mother, Karen Call, in 2002.

A judge denied the request, saying that an early judicial release would demean the seriousness of the offense.

The brothers pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter after their mother was strangled to death inside their Kettering home. Prosecutors said the brothers planned the killing and even practiced carrying out the crime before they lured their mother upstairs, put a bag over her head and strangled her with a cord.

Defense attorneys representing the brothers said the men were victims of battered child syndrome and suffered years of physical and mental abuse at the hands of their mother.

The brothers will be released from prison in March 2008 after they complete the remainder of their six-year sentence.
