The West Carrollton Fire Department has put a new water rescue boat in service on the Great Miami River.

The AB Inflatables watercraft replaces a model that was 20 years old and combines an aluminum hull with inflatable tubes, according to the city.

West Carrollton Fire Capt. Adam Blake said the new 282-pound boat is much lighter than the department’s former 2,000-pound rigid inflatable model, and much easier to lift on and off of the trailer.

Blake said the boat performs well in swift or shallow water.
