Construction along Yankee Road in Liberty Twp. will take a hiatus during the winter months.

Beginning Friday, Dec. 15, construction on Yankee Road between Dutchland Parkway and Princeton Road will be suspended for the winter months and resume in spring 2018, according to the Butler County Engineer’s Office.

Yankee Road and all connecting streets will be open to traffic during this period.

Work on the project began last July and is scheduled for completion in 2018. For the winter opening, a base and mid-course application of asphalt was laid along the impacted section of Yankee Road, with temporary striping in place.

FIRST REPORT: Major road project headed for Liberty Twp.

The project involves widening Yankee Road between Dutchland Parkway and Princeton Road from two to three lanes — one lane in each direction with a dedicated center left turn lane; a modern roundabout constructed at Yankee and Princeton Road; one bridge replacement and another widened; plus, adjustments to the roadway’s vertical profile.

Additionally, sidewalks will be added between Dutchland and Wyandot Lane and the signals at Dutchland and Yankee will be upgraded.

The roundabout at Yankee and Princeton Roads opened in September 2017.

When construction resumes in the spring, Yankee Road will close again to commuter traffic but will remain open to provide access for local residents and businesses, according to the engineer’s office.

All work is tentatively scheduled for completion by mid-June 2018, according to the engineer’s office.

Funding for the project consists of federal and state grant money plus local Butler County funds.
