You could be working next to someone who is high on drugs and the boss doesn't know because they passed a urine test.
They are using products like the "urinator" and the "Wizinator." Another, the "Gotcha Belt" is marketed as a great party gift. They all contain pre-mixed, synthetic urine.
Chris, a recovering drug addict, said he has used fake urine twice in the past five years to pass a drug test at work. One of those jobs was hundreds of feet up in the air working on communications towers. The fake urine allowed him to be high on the job while putting his co-workers at risk.
"Gyn pull could go sideways, break everything and come crashing down and kill a couple of guys and you too," said Chris who claimed buying fake urine is easy and legal in Ohio.
We went to the 70's Rock Shop in Union, the same place where Chris said he went, to see just how easy it is to purchase. We asked the man behind the counter if he sold fake urine and how to use it. He assured us that, "It will pass any of the tests."
We did some digging and learned that the person who owns the building is Union's City Manager. John Applegate said he rents space to the 70's Rock Shop and he didn't know that fake urine was being sold there.
"Anyone trying to evade a drug test, I don't approve of," said Applegate. However, he said that the 70's Rock Shop was not his business.
We went to the Probation Department of the Dayton Municipal Court to put synthetic urine to the test.
"This test is completely clean for our test results. I think this is exactly why this product was created, exactly why states are outlawing specific products like it. It circumvents our testing process," said Joel Zeugner, Chief Probation Officer. "I wish it did not exist and I wish it was illegal and you didn't get this stuff as easily as you did."
We spent more than $80 on six ounces of fake urine.
A former addict like Chris said, "If it means your job, it's money well spent."
