Volz said last month on his restaurant’s Facebook page that he would be undergoing foot surgery.
A more extensive foot surgery in 2016 shut down Voltzy’s Rootbeer Stand for more than four months.

The popular eatery at 4668 Springboro Pike in Moraine is known for its burgers, house-made soups, slaw dogs, coneys and root beer floats. But beyond the food, Voltzy’s is perhaps even better-known for the larger-than-life personality of its owner, who greets customers by name with good-natured, often R-rated insults delivered in rapid-fired fashion.

The restaurant closed in May 2016 when Volz entered the hospital for foot surgery. It re-opened that October.
The "Voltzy's Recovery" fundraiser Connie Lambert West launched at that time on GoFundMe raised nearly $6,000 to help Volz with his medical bills.
