Oregon District restaurant extends hours with ‘speakeasy vibe’

An Oregon District restaurant is extending its hours and mixing things up behind the bar.

Salar Restaurant and Lounge, 400 E Fifth St., just announced that its main bar will now remain open until midnight Friday and Saturday.

“Salar will have a “late-night speakeasy vibe,” according to a press release from the business.

Its side door on Fifth Street will be used as an entrance for the bar-only service.

Live music will be featured on holidays, Oregon District  events, Downtown Dayton Partnership's First Friday and other special occasions.

The restaurant’s kitchen will close at 10:30 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays.

Margot Blondet, a graduate of Le Cordon Bleu in Lima, Peru, opened Salar in 2013 at the former site of Sidebar.

It reopened in fall of 2018 after it and a half-dozen other  businesses closed when they received major smoke and/or fire damage during a blaze early Friday, Dec. 29, 2017.

In addition to the extended hours, Salar recently launched a Happy Hour menu to celebrate the coming of spring. The menu features cocktails for $8.75 and light bar bites for $7 or less.

Food options include spicy orange pork with fried pork  tenderloins with tangy carrot slaw for $5, Chicken Skewers with green onion, aji amarillo salsa and jasmine rice for $6 and fish tacos with guajillo and apple salsa, roasted garlic aioli, arugula and pickled onions for $7.

Salar’s happy hour exclusive cocktails include a classic old fashioned, margarita, Moscow mule, vodka raspberry gimlet and strawberry daiquiri, the press release says.

Other drink options include $5 red or white house wine and $1 off all beer both bottled or on draft.

Happy Hour is Monday-Friday 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. for customers seated at either of Salar’s two full-service bars.
