The Sweet Retreat opened last year in the former space of the Dairy Queen on Smithville Road in Dayton’s Belmont neighborhood. The shop is the brainchild of Simon Wiley and Chris Tobias, who attended the same grade school and high school. It specializes in sweets like ice cream, sundaes  and ice cream cakes, as well as classic drive-up foodie eats like jalapeno poppers and chili cheese hot dogs.
