There’s a reason tons of people will be headed to Tank’s this holiday weekend

Quick question: What's your favorite casual late night neighborhood hangout spot that serves all-day breakfast, burgers and overstuffed deli sandwiches?

If you said Tank's Bar & Grill we're operating on the same wave length.

The popular spot that has become a mainstay since opening in 1987 will mark its fifth year serving Thanksgiving dinner this week.

The dinner will feature a traditional Thanksgiving turkey dinner with dressing and gravy, the choice of two sides, a non-alcoholic beverage and a dessert for $17.99.

Sides include mashed potatoes with gravy, sweet potato casserole, green bean casserole, hash brown casserole and buttered corn. The meals will be served with homemade cranberry relish and a crescent role. Dessert options include homemade pumpkin pie, apple dumpling with ice cream, pecan pie, four different types of cheesecake or a slice of bourbon banana cake.

"Over the last five years being open Thanksgiving day has become popular — attendance has increased 20-30 percent every Thanksgiving. People are always thankful that we are open because people don't always have someplace to go on Thanksgiving Day," said Debbie Tankersley, Tank's Bar & Grill owner. "Tank's has always had a homey family feel to it, so it makes people feel like they are going home."

Due to increasing popularity and a near sell-out last year, this is the first year Tank's will be taking reservations. All employees are given the choice whether to work or not which Tankersley says was important to her that no one is made to work on a holiday.

SPECIALTY DRINKS

Over the holiday weekend three specialty drinks that Tank's bartender Carl has created will be served. A mulled cider drink, a twist on a mule and a pumpkin martini will be available for purchase for $10 each.

The kitchen will be open from 6-10:30 p.m. with the restaurant and bar closing at 11 p.m.

Thanksgiving Day isn't the only day that the restaurant will be packed. Tankersley says that the evening before Thanksgiving also tends to be a packed house.

COMING UP

December is also looking to be a busy month.

In December, Tank's will be having a five-course wine tasting dinner on the Dec. 20th. Tickets go on sale Dec. 1 at Tank's. They are also planning a special dinner with Santa in mid-December. Check www.tanksbarandgrill.com for more information. Throughout the month of December Tank's will be running a campaign to raise shoes and socks for disadvantaged children through a drive for Shoes 4 the Shoeless. Any donation of new shoes and socks throughout December at Tank's will go to a good cause and earn you a free basket of fries.

"Things have been going well this year. Every year seems to get busier and busier so I think we will be open another 31 years," said Tankersley.
