Area fishing report

Indian Lake: Saugeye fishing has been outstanding. Troll the south bank with crawler harnesses, Vib-Es or twisters. Crappies are spawning in the channels. Use minnows and fish around brush. Some large bluegills have been caught on rubber spiders tipped with waxworms. For bass, work the banks and channels with spinnerbaits and pig-n-jig.

C.J. Brown Reservoir: The best walleye fishing has been off of the rocks near the dam. Some are casting Vib-Es and others are trolling with crawler harnesses. White bass are beginning to run in the north end. Look for jumps and fish with an inline spinner. Anglers are catching crappies in the marina and around the pylons near the ramp, but most are small.

Grand Lake St. Marys: Crappies are spawning, so fish in shallow water around brush and wood. Use minnows or small chartreuse jigs. Bluegills are hitting small rubber spiders tipped with waxworms. Bass fishing has been good, using plastics along the banks. Catfish are biting on cut bait and nightcrawlers.

Lake Loramie: You will catch plenty of crappies close to the banks, but few will be keepers. Use minnows or small white jigs. Bluegills are hitting ice jigs tipped with waxworms. In the spillway, anglers are catching saugeyes on colorful twisters and crappies and yellow perch on minnows. Bass are tight to the banks, chasing bass minnows, plastics, spinnerbaits and crankbaits.

Acton Lake: Muddy water has slowed fishing temporarily, except for catfish which are hitting cut bait, nightcrawlers and chicken liver where water runs into the lake. Crappies are spawning, so fish close to the banks in brush with minnows. Some of the larger crappies are 4-6 feet deep. For saugeyes, fish the points with sucker chubs or nightcrawlers. They are also hitting off of the rocks at the dam.

Caesar Creek Lake: Crappies are spawning, so you'll catch plenty around brush in 5-6 feet of water. To catch the larger ones, however, you will have to fish in 15 feet of water around structure. Minnows are working best. Bluegills are about 8 feet deep around stickups. For saugeyes, try trolling around the island with crankbaits. Bass are close to the banks, hitting plastics. White bass are running in the creeks.

Rocky Fork Lake: Bass fishing has been good, as usual, with most of the action coming off of rocky points with crankbaits and jigs. Crappies are spawning and you can catch them 3-10 feet deep around wood. Use minnows, small tubes and twisters. Saugeye fishing has been improving in front of the south beach. Try trolling a crankbait or a twister tipped with a nightcrawler. Work the coves with waxworms to catch bluegills in brushy areas.

Paint Creek Lake: Crappies are spawning, so fish 2-8 feet deep. There seems to be a good percentage of keepers being caught. Use minnows or chartreuse jigs or twisters. Bass are 3-7 feet deep around rocky points, hitting crankbaits or plastics. Catfish are biting on nightcrawlers, cut bait and chicken liver in the creeks. In the spillway, fish for saugeyes, crappies and catfish.

Cowan Lake: Crappies between 9 and 14 inches are being caught around brush piles with slip bobber and minnows 12 to 18 inches deep, within 20 feet off the bank. Bluegills are hitting waxworms and redworms in the brush. Fish the points with crankbaits and spinnerbaits for bass.

Lake Erie: Trolling anglers are catching walleyes around the Bass Islands and around Kelleys Island. Anglers jigging are still catching fish on the reefs of the Camp Perry firing range and in Maumee Bay. For jigging, use hair jigs tipped with emerald shiners.

Smallmouth Bass are being caught around island shorelines in less than 20 feet of water. Try using tube jigs, crankbaits or jerkbaits.
