Dayton Flyers redshirt freshman forward Obi Toppin won the Atlantic 10 Conference Rookie of the Week Award for the sixth time Monday.

In a victory at Massachusetts and a loss at home to Rhode Island, Toppin averaged 22.5 points and 9.5 rebounds. He made 19 of 24 shots (79.2 percent) in the two games and dunked seven times. He almost recorded the first triple-double in school history Saturday, falling three assists short.

Through 29 games, Toppin has a school-record 73 dunks among his 175 made field goals. He’s shooting 67.6 percent from the field, ranking fourth in the country.

Toppin is averaging 14.3 points per game, which leads the team and would tie him with Johnny Davis for the best freshman scoring average in school history if it stands up. He could become the first non-transfer to lead Dayton in scoring since Chris Wright in 2010-11.
