Bengals get roster exemption for Pacman

Adam Jones returned to the Cincinnati Bengals on Monday after serving his one-game suspension stemming from his January arrest.

“I’m in shape. I’m ready to go,” Jones said. “I put myself in this situation. I’ve already apologized to my teammates, Mr. Brown (team owner and president Mike Brown), all of my coaches. Now it’s back to the basics, helping my team try to win a game.”

Jones’ return was not accompanied by a corresponding roster move as the team received a roster exemption due to the quick turnaround for Thursday night’s home game against Houston. The roster exemption expires at 4 p.m. Tuesday.

The team will have to make a transaction — either waiving a player or putting one on Injured Reserve — Tuesday to get back to the 53-man roster limit.

Starting guard right Trey Hopkins left Sunday's 20-0 loss against Baltimore , and he was not present in the locker room Monday when the players were dressing for practice.

Bengals head coach Marvin Lewis said he didn’t have an update on Hopkins’ status.
