Chandler scores 14 as Dayton women win exhibition game vs. Indianapolis

Redshirt junior forward Julia Chandler scored 14 points to lead the Dayton Flyers to a 67-56 victory over Indianapolis in an exhibition game Thursday at UD Arena.

Chandler, a transfer from Syracuse who sat out last season, made 6 of 8 shots from the field, including 2 of 3 3-pointers in her first game at UD Arena. Her first regular-season game will come Nov. 9 when the Flyers play Colgate at 11 a.m.

Jayla Scaife added 11 points for Dayton. Araion Bradshaw had 10 points. Shakeela Fowler, who missed all of last season with a knee injury, scored seven points.

Of the three true freshman, Kyla Whitehead received the most playing time, seeing 13 minutes. She scored four points.

Dayton shot 39 percent from the field, while Indianapolis shot 42 percent, but the Flyers took 18 more shots thanks in part to 15 offensive rebounds. Indianapolis had four offensive rebounds.

Indianapolis, a Division II team from the Great Lakes Valley Conference, finished 8-20 last season.
