Xavier buries Dayton with 21-0 run to win AdvoCare title

Xavier buried Dayton with a 21-0 run in the second half, rolling to a 90-61 victory in the championship game of the AdvoCare Invitational on Sunday at the HP Field House at ESPN’s Wide World of Sports.

Dayton suffered its worst loss to its former Atlantic 10 rival since the 1931-32 season when it lost 46-12. The Flyers (5-1) committed 22 turnovers and shot 33 percent in the second half, while Xavier committed 13 turnovers and shot 56 percent in the second half.

The Flyers trailed 43-35 at halftime and 47-39 two minutes into the second half. That’s where the Musketeers (7-0) took over the game for good. They scored 21 straight points in six-plus minute span to take a 68-39 lead at the 12:10 mark. Dayton got no closer than 21 points after that.

Kendall Pollard led the Flyers with 15 points. Scoochie Smith scored 13.

Edmond Sumner had 14 points for Xavier. Six Musketeers scored in double figures.
