College Insider: Monroe’s Pokorski earns soccer honors at Anderson

Jacob Pokorski earned multiple honors with the Anderson (Ind.) University men’s soccer team this fall.

The sophomore midfielder and Monroe High School graduate led the Ravens in scoring with 10 goals and four assists. He was named to the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference second team and the College Sports Information Directors of America Academic All-District 7 squad.

Pokorski is an education major with a 3.83 grade point average.

Teammate Ben Lapham (Monroe) earned a spot on the HCAC All-Sportsmanship team. The junior goalkeeper played in 11 games and had a .762 save percentage.

Anderson finished 9-8-1.

• Capital senior defender Hunter Booth (Lakota East) has garnered a spot on the Ohio Athletic Conference second team.

Booth had two goals and two assists for the Crusaders, who finished 14-4-2.

Other locals on the Capital roster were junior defender Hunter Stiger (Lakota West), junior midfielder Kyle Brotherton (Lakota West) and freshman forward Andrew McEwen (Lakota West).

Stiger played in 13 games and Brotherton saw action in four. McEwen scored one goal.

Football: Freshman quarterback Hunter Krause (Fairfield) threw for 1,547 yards as Davenport posted a 6-5 record.

Krause was 134 of 233 for 15 touchdowns with nine interceptions. He also carried the ball 59 times for 197 yards and a TD and punted 30 times for a 33.5-yard average, dropping 13 kicks inside the 20-yard line.

Also for the Panthers, junior wide receiver Herman Brunis (Fairfield) had 40 receptions for 464 yards and four touchdowns, freshman wide receiver T.C. Wells (Fairfield) caught nine balls for 122 yards and three TDs, and redshirt sophomore defensive end Tony Stephens (Fairfield) had one solo tackle and two assists in five games.

• Freshman defensive lineman Chase Struewing (Waynesville) of Lebanon totaled 18 tackles (four solos, 14 assists) in an 8-2 campaign for Denison.

Junior defensive lineman Jack Cleary (Lakota West) played in four games and collected one solo and three assists.

• Sophomore Rick Kurz (St. Xavier) of West Chester Township is a starting offensive tackle for Army (5-5).

The Black Knights will host Morgan State on Saturday at noon.

Women's soccer: Ashland senior defender Jessica Brown (Fairfield) was an honorable-mention selection in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.

Brown started every game and notched one goal and one assist for the Eagles, who finished 10-3-4.
