Miami hockey team still No. 1

The Miami University hockey team remained the No. 1 ranked squad in the nation in the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine and United States College Hockey Online.com polls released Monday, Oct. 19.

Miami (3-0-1) garnered 46 of 50 first-place votes in the USCHO.com poll. In the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine poll, the RedHawks are a unanimous No. 1, receiving all 33 first-place votes.

The RedHawks open Central Collegiate Hockey Association play this weekend when they host Michigan State on Friday, Oct. 23 (7:05 p.m.) and Saturday, Oct. 24 (8:05 p.m.).

Miami sophomore earns CCHA honor

Miami defenseman Matt Tomassoni on Monday, Oct. 19, was named the Central College Hockey Association Defensive Player of the Week.

Tomassoni, a sophomore from Carol Stream, Ill., scored goals in both of Miami’s games last week — a 6-3 win and 5-5 tie against New Hampshire. Tomassoni also had a plus-4 rating in the two games.

Miami Hamilton volleyball falls to UC-Clermont

BATAVIA — The Miami University Hamilton volleyball team dropped a 27-25, 25-17, 26-24 decision Sunday, Oct. 18, in Ohio Regional Campus Conference play.

MUH (8-7, 3-4 ORCC) was led by Maggie Philpot (20 assists, four digs, two aces), Gwen Bohman (16 kills, 10 digs) and Ashley Butler (11 digs, six kills).
