Jake Chisholm scored on a 23-yard run with 18 seconds to play to give the Dayton Flyers a 31-24 victory against Valparaiso on Saturday at Welcome Stadium.

Dayton drove 68 yards in nine plays on its winning drive, which started with 2:32 to play. Chisholm ran straight up the middle on the run and broke a tackle at the line.

Dayton (6-2, 4-1) won its third straight game since a 31-0 loss at Butler and stayed in contention for the Pioneer Football League championship. The Flyers play at Presbyterian (1-7, 0-5) at 1 p.m. next Saturday.

Chisholm rushed for 103 yards on 18 carries. Quarterback Shane Hamm gained 129 yards on 24 carries and completed 12 of 19 passes for 138 yards.

Chisholm got Dayton on the board on its first drive of the game with an 11-yard touchdown run in the first quarter.

On the second play of Valparaiso’s next possession, Cole Hildebrand intercepted a pass and returned it 30 yards to give Dayton a 14-0 lead.

Valparaiso tied the game with the next two touchdowns. Mikey Appel threw a 67-yard touchdown pass to Solomon Davis with 9:20 to play in the first quarter. Appel then threw a 12-yard touchdown pass to Braden Contreras, tying the game with 4:44 to play in the quarter.

Dayton trailed 21-17 in the third when Kyle Hazell caught a 2-yard touchdown pass from Hamm. Valparaiso (4-4, 3-2) tied the game on a 35-yard field goal early in the fourth quarter.
